ABOUT ABOUT

Songs of longing are joined by music of hope and joy in this exciting concert. The original Winterreise by Franz Schubert (the first twelve songs of the complete set) will be sung by special guest and Minnesota native Joel Frederiksen. Joel recently won a German ECHO prize (the German equivalent of a Grammy) for his recording Requiem for a Pink Moon: An Elizabethan Tribute to Nick Drake with his Ensmeble Phoenix Munich. These beautiful wintry songs of melancholy will be joined by Samuel Barber's haunting Dover Beach for voice and string quartet.

On the joyous side, there is a special world premiere of Minnesota native composer William Weigel. His Trio for Violin, Viola, and Piano will open the concert. Closing the concert is one of the greatest and most-admired works of all time: Dvorak's incredible and rousing Piano Quintet.
